戊二醛溶液，Glutaraldehyde solution；Grade I, 50% in H2O, specially purified for use as an electron microscopy fixative or other sophisticated use

Glutaraldehyde is a saturated dialdehyde, which is widely known as a chemical sterilant. Glutaraldehyde solutions comprise both monomers and polymers with a difference in their fixation efficiency. 

 

Glutaraldehyde solution has been used:

• along with 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazineethanesulfonic acid (HEPES) buffer to fix the concentrated extracellular vesicles (EVs) on concanavalin A for scanning electron microscope (SEM)
• as a component in a solution to fix the cells to observe its morphology
• to fix the Escherichia coli cells in aqueous solution to preserve the surface morphology of bacterial cells

Glutaraldehyde is applicable in biomedical research to fix cells and can also be used to analyze healthy and pathologic red blood cells. It is broadly used to disinfect medical equipment like spirometry tubing, endoscopes, transducers, anesthesia, and respiratory therapy equipment, and reuse laparoscopic disposable plastic trocar.
